Questions

Everything people ask about the pyramid itself, and about buying from the shop.

How the 2025–2030 framework works in practice. The full walkthrough lives on The Pyramid.

Is this a strict diet I have to follow exactly? +
No. The guidelines describe the New Pyramid as a flexible framework, not a meal-by-meal prescription. It's built to bend around cultural traditions, budgets, and preferences while holding one line: eat real food most of the time.
Did this replace MyPlate? +
Yes. MyPlate had been the official graphic since 2011. The 2025–2030 edition, released January 7, 2026, retired it and brought back a pyramid — inverted, with protein, dairy, healthy fats, and produce in the wide top bands and whole grains at the tip.
Is butter suddenly "healthy" now? +
It's an option, not a headline. The guidance puts olive oil and other oils rich in essential fatty acids first for cooking, lists butter and tallow as choices, and keeps the long-standing ceiling of saturated fat under 10% of daily calories — about 22 g on a 2,000-calorie day.
Where do beans and lentils fit? +
In the top band. Plant proteins — beans, peas, lentils, nuts, seeds, and soy — count fully toward the protein target alongside eggs, poultry, seafood, and red meat. A vegetarian pattern works within the pyramid with some planning for nutrients like B12, vitamin D, iron, and calcium.
Is fruit's sugar a problem under the added-sugar rules? +
No. The zero-added-sugar stance targets sugar added to foods — it explicitly does not apply to sugars naturally present in whole fruit and plain dairy. Two servings of whole fruit a day are part of the framework.
How is this different from keto or carnivore? +
The pyramid is protein-forward, not carb-free. It keeps 2–4 daily servings of whole grains, two of fruit, and three of vegetables. What it removes isn't carbohydrate — it's refined carbohydrate and added sugar.
Should athletes or very active people eat more grains? +
Likely yes — the serving ranges assume a roughly 2,000-calorie day, and the guidelines say to scale with your own needs. Heavy training days justify the top of the grain range (or beyond) from whole sources; that's a conversation worth having with a dietitian if performance is on the line.
